Travel Content → Personal Development Content
I’ve decided to rethink my weekly write ups for Jas Journal. When I initially kicked off this newsletter, I was planning on being a nomad traveling full-time & I wanted to use this platform to document my local findings & list out restaurants/activities I’ve been to. My nomad-ing came to a stop when I decided to make Mexico City my home base in September. & since then, I’ve been fully focused on building roots in my new home and taking care of myself & less on wanting to travel.
Mexico City for me is my home where I have my routine, I can slow down, & I can recharge. Because I want to spend as much time as I can in Mexico City over the next year, I won’t have as much “content” for what this newsletter was intended for. Instead of focusing on logging my extracurricular activities outside of work, I’m going to write about what I’m doing weekly to work on myself.
When I turned 30, I listed out different areas in my life that I want to improve. & since then, I’ve found myself utilizing different resources & playing around with different methods of staying on track. What I’d like to write about weekly is progress tracking, highlighting small wins, & logging resources I’ve found helpful. Of course this will slowly evolve & change as I figure out what I want to share & how I want to write about my personal development, but the goal is to reflect on what I’ve accomplished & hold myself accountable.
Because I do foresee getaway trips here & there, I’ll do post trip write ups consolidating restaurant reviews, tips/tricks for the place I visited, & general experience I had. For the pictures used at the top of the newsletter, I’ll keep this the same sharing a few pictures from the week.
Personal Development: Areas of Focus
So for the first journal entry with my shift from travel to personal development - I want to share my areas of focus.
Physical Health
This has to do with feeling empowered by how I feel in my body & less of how my body looks overall. Because how I feel in my body has to do with how I’m treating my body throughout the week (workouts, self-care, eating healthy), there are lots of areas in my day to day that can contribute to how I feel.
Language Learning: Spanish
A big goal of mine has been to learn Spanish. The concept of speaking two languages is very foreign for me & I’m in awe of those that can speak 2+ languages. By breaking the language barrier between me & Spanish speakers, I can form deeper connections with those I meet especially while I travel throughout Latin America.
Relationships
I’m looking for ways to cultivate intentional relationships with new friends & maintain existing friendships. I am also learning about vulnerability as a means of connecting deeper with loved ones.
Career
I’ve been in a project management role for 1.5 years & I’m starting to question what is next. By understanding what is next I can better prepare myself for the eventual transition.
DJ
I want to turn my passive hobby into a more active hobby by consistently practicing & making content.
Financial Health
Learning what financial health means for me & what can I explore to set myself up for passive income in the next 3-5 years.
Creativity
I want to make best use of my down time towards creative outlets. I have an interest in fashion/style, jewelry making, & arranging flower bouquets. Now that I have a new apartment to set up, I want to tap into my creative side with interior design.
Mental Health
What is connected to my physical health & relationship goals is my relationship with my self. I want to learn authentic self-love & better cope with my general anxiety & stress.
Community
It is very important to me to be involved in helping better my community. In New York, this was with New York Cares. But now that I’m in Mexico City, I want to find ways to consistently give back to my community.
